iPhone Dev - Team Releases Redsn0w 0.9.15b1 : Adds Re-Restoration for A5 Devices

The iPhone Dev-Team has released the latest version 0.9.15b1 of its famous jailbreak utility redsn0w for Windows and Mac. Redsn0w 0.9.15b1 adds some new features like re-restoration of A5 devices, which allows hassle-free restore to the iOS versions which are no longer being signed by Apple. For example, if you are on iOS 5.0 currently and wanted to restore your device to 5.0.1, you will not be able to do so as Apple will allow restore to only the newest iOS version (6.0). So once Apple stops signing an older firmware after a newer firmware is released, you will not be able to restore to that older firmware in iTunes.

With redsn0w 0.9.15b1, you can restore to a firmware version even if it is not being signed by Apple. The only thing you will need is the correct shsh blobs for the same. A tutorial will be posted soon on this topic. Stay tuned to Blog O'Nerd.

UPDATE: A tutorial on how to restore your device to an iOS version no longer being signed by Apple using redsn0w 0.9.15b1 has been posted here.

The other features added in redsn0w 0.9.15b1 are as follows:
  • Cydia now included in the tethered 6.0 jailbreak on A4 devices.
  • automatically “Just Boot” tethered when qualifying A4 device connects in DFU mode.
  • untethered 6.0 jailbreak on old-bootrom 3GS.
  • untethered 6.0 hactivation on any 3GS or iPhone 4.
  • directly restore pre-A5 devices to earlier firmware — no more complicated 15-step how-to’s with stitching, iTunes errors, and “hosts file” concerns.
  • fetch new signed blobs for any IPSW (present or future — no redsn0w update required) using Extras->SHSH Blobs->New.
  • block the BB update for any 3GS or iPhone4 restore (past, present, or future — no redsn0w update required) using Extras->Even More->Restore.
  • deactivate any iPhone, useful for testing your official unlock status through iTunes.
  • activation status shown on “Even more” page.
  • significantly more info returned by “Identify” button when device is in Normal mode.
  • tethered jailbreak of ATV2 supported (but the only thing available for it is the SSH2 custom bundle available here — no Cydia yet. Must use “Select IPSW” for tethered boot of ATV2 for now).
  • auto-exit WTF mode for older devices with broken buttons.
  • any time a set of blobs is fetched remotely (from Apple or Cydia), redsn0w also saves them locally (and will check there first if you click “Local”)
I will soon post a tutorial on How to restore to an iOS version no longer being signed by Apple on your A5 plus devices. Stay tuned to Blog O'Nerd.

UPDATE: A tutorial on how to restore your device to an iOS version no longer being signed by Apple using redsn0w 0.9.15b1 has been posted here.

Crazy Taxi Makes Its Way To iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad

The classic arcade game Crazy Taxi has made its way to Apple iDevices including iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad as Sega has ported its open world racing game to Apple iOS devices. Crazy Taxi was very famous among gamers on arcades, PCs and consoles like PlayStation 2 and Xbox live arcades. Sega has now released Crazy Taxy on iOS devices too.

Crazy Taxi can be played on iOS devices having iOS 4.3 or later. Crazy Taxi is rated 9+ for infrequent/mild cartoon or fantasy violence. The iOS version is designed for both iPhone and iPad which means the same game can run on both your iPhone/iPod touch and iPad. Unfortunately, Crazy Taxi will not be getting full resolution on the iPhone 5 and 5th generation iPod Touch as it is not yet developed for them. But you can still run it on these devices with smaller resolution. Hopefully Sega may soon bring full resolution Crazy Taxi for iPhone 5 and iPod touch 5G.

Crazy Taxi is 125 MB in size and is prices at $4.99 USD. You can buy it on iTunes by clicking here

Crazy Taxi was well received by gamers and critics when it was released in year 2000 and the iOS version is also getting mostly positive reviews.

" YA YA YA YA YA! Crazy Taxi iOS is a faithful recreation of the Arcade & Dreamcast hit, perfect for mobile play." -IGN

"The perfect time-killer while you're waiting for a table, bustling along on the commute to work, or looking for a fun pass-and-play style game with friends. Check it out." -Touch Arcade

"If you missed Crazy Taxi the first time around, you'll love the delightful design and fast-moving visuals. If you're an old pro, you'll want to replay it at a low price with new features like tilt controls and online leader boards." -Slide to Play

Here are some screenshots from Crazy Taxi page on iTunes.

Apple CEO Tim Cook Apologizes For Buggy iOS 6 Maps App

Apple CEO Tim Cook has publicly apologized for the buggy Maps App which was recently launched with the all new iOS 6. Apple recently released iPhone 5 and iOS 6. Starting from iOS 6, Apple decided to part ways with Google which provided in-built apps like YouTube and Google Maps which came pre-loaded with every iOS version. After Apple and Google parted ways, Apple decided to built their own maps app and released it with iOS 6. As per Apple's claim, the all new maps app was supposed to be ground-breaking but just in a matter of days after the iOS 6 release, it is cleared that Apple's "all new" Maps app is very buggy in many ways.

Some of the glitches in Apple's Maps app includes some famous places missing from the map, places shown at wrong locations, glitches in 3D mapping etc. Due to numerous bugs, Apple has been facing criticism from all over. Apple users are blasting out against Apple for not being able to develop a map app up to the mark.

Following the criticism, Apple CEO Tim Cook has come forward and has posted a public statement titled "A Letter from Tim Cook on Maps" on their website. In the letter, Tim Cook agrees that they have fell short to the commitment of creating work-class experience for their users.

Tim Cook has asked users to use alternative maps while they are improving their maps app. He also includes that they will not stop until they can make the map app live up to the incredibly high standards.

The full letter is as follows:

To our customers,

At Apple, we strive to make world-class products that deliver the best experience possible to our customers. With the launch of our new Maps last week, we fell short on this commitment. We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make Maps better.

We launched Maps initially with the first version of iOS. As time progressed, we wanted to provide our customers with even better Maps including features such as turn-by-turn directions, voice integration, Flyover and vector-based maps. In order to do this, we had to create a new version of Maps from the ground up.

There are already more than 100 million iOS devices using the new Apple Maps, with more and more joining us every day. In just over a week, iOS users with the new Maps have already searched for nearly half a billion locations. The more our customers use our Maps the better it will get and we greatly appreciate all of the feedback we have received from you.

While we’re improving Maps, you can try alternatives by downloading map apps from the App Store like Bing, MapQuest and Waze, or use Google or Nokia maps by going to their websites and creating an icon on your home screen to their web app.

Everything we do at Apple is aimed at making our products the best in the world. We know that you expect that from us, and we will keep working non-stop until Maps lives up to the same incredibly high standard.

Tim Cook
Apple’s CEO

Now that Apple has apologized for the very buggy maps app, it would be interesting to see how much time it takes for the improvements. Apple in no doubt makes world-class products and of course they will work hard to improve the maps app. Though it wasn't expected from Apple to release a software that is so buggy.

iPhone Hacker p0sixninja Leaves Chronic-Dev Team

The very famous iPhone hacker and jailbreak developer Joshua Hill better known by his handle p0sixninja, has decided to leave the Chronic-Dev Team. p0sixninja has tweeted a moment ago that he is no longer a part of the Chronic-Dev Team. p0sixninja was one of the core members to work on the famous greenpois0n jailbreaks.

The exact reason for p0sixninja's decision of leaving Chronic-Dev Team is unknown and I had tweeted to him if he will still find exploit and develop free jailbreaks for the scene. p0sixninja has not replied to it (yet).

Just a day before, p0sixninja surprisingly tweeted that he was selling an iPhone 4 for $50 along with an iBoot 0day for free.

This tweet came as surprise and no one was sure if he was serious or joking.

When a user asked p0sixninja if he was serious, he replied that he was serious and wanted to get rid of that stuff.

Now if p0sixninja is leaving the jailbreak scene too, he will be another prominent hacker to leave the scene after GeoHot and Comex left. It will be early to say how p0sixninja's decision of leaving the Chronic-Dev Team will affect the jailbreak scene, or will it have any effect at all. It is still not confirmed if he will be leaving the jailbreak scene or not.

Any update on this topic will be posted here. Keep an eye on Blog O'Nerd for more iPhone updates, tutorials and tech news.

How To Downgrade iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS Baseband From 6.15.00 to 5.13.04

Hello everyone. Good news for all those who were stuck on iPad baseband 6.15.00 on their iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS. You probably installed the iPad baseband on your iPhone because you restored to a stock IPSW and ended up upgrading your baseband and lost the ultrasn0w-unlockable baseband. Ultrasn0w supports basebands upto 5.13.04 on iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. So the iPad baseband trick came to rescue for all those who upgraded their baseband beyond 5.13.04. Installing the iPad baseband 6.15.00 allowed iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users to unlock using ultrasn0w, so their iPhones won't just become and iPod!

The iPad baseband method to unlock iPhone 3G and 3GS came to rescue, but with a price. The iPhone with iPad baseband installed had to lose the GPS functionality. The iPhone had to be restored with a custom IPSW, while making sure to select the "install iPad" option. This was not convenient and so now finally the iPhone Dev team has released the method to downgrade the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS from iPad baseband to the normal iPhone baseband.

In this tutorial, I will show how to downgrade your iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS from iPad baseband to iPhone baseband.

Step 1
Download latest redsn0w for Windows or Mac
Download latest iTunes.
The stock IPSW for the iOS your iPhone is currently on. You would probably have it because you used it to create custom IPSW. If you don't have it, then click here to download.

Step 2
Connect your iPhone to your computer.
Open iTunes and sync it (take backup). Close iTunes.
Run redsn0w.
Click Extras, click Select IPSW. Provide the stock IPSW of your iPhone's current iOS version.
Click Back.

Step 3
Power off your iPhone using the Power button.
Click Jailbreak in redsn0w.
When it shows options, select "Downgrade from iPad baseband" option. Uncheck the Install Cydia option if your iPhone is already jailbroken. Otherwise, select it if you would like to jailbreak your iphone.

Step 4
Click Next.
Now you will be guided to enter Pwned DFU mode, so follow the steps shown in redsn0w.
Once your iPhone is in Pwned DFU mode, the downgrade process will start. You will see the Pwnapple logo (running pineapple) and after that, the flashing of baseband will start.
Do not disconnect your iPhone while the process is ongoing. The "Flashing Baseband" process takes about 10 minutes to complete and no progress is shown on screen. So be patient.
When the process is finished, your iPhone will reboot.

Step 5
Check the new baseband.
Go to Settings - General - About and check "Modem Firmware". It should be 5.13.04.

Step 6
Now open Cydia.
Uninstall ultrasn0w and re-install it (or simply upgrade it if you are not on the latest version). Also re-install Mobile Substrate if you are having no signal or your iPhone is crashing.

Step 7
Check the GPS functionality. Open Maps and check the GPS function. It should work fine now.

Okay so that's all. This was the tutorial on how to downgrade iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS from iPad baseband to iPhone baseband.

If you like this tutorial, if you found it useful or think others may find it useful, please take a minute to share it.

If you have any positive or negative feedback, criticism or suggestions, please post in comments.

How To Jailbreak, Activate and Unlock iPhone on iOS 5.1.1 - A Step By Step Tutorial

Jailbreak iOS 5.1.1

Hello everyone. As you may know, the latest untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 has been released. In my last tutorial, I explained how to jailbreak your device on iOS 5.1.1. If you don't have official SIM for your iPhone, you will not be able to activate it after restoring. So now in this tutorial, I will explain how to Jailbreak, Activate and Unlock your iPhone on iOS 5.1.1.

Please note that I have used some old screen shots to save bandwidth. It does not affect the process at all.

This tutorial is not for iPhone 4S as iPhone 4S is not yet supported.

Step 1
Downloading everything.

Download iOS 5.1.1 IPSW for your iPhone. Be careful while downloading and download IPSW only for your device. Click here to download IPSW.
Download sn0wbreeze 2.9.5 or greater. Click here.

Step 2
Creating custom IPSW.

Step 2.1
Run sn0wbreeze.

Click OK. Click Next.

Step 2.2
Click Browse for an IPSW and browse to the IPSW you downloaded. Your IPSW will be verified and sn0wbreeze will show you the version. Make sure it is correct. If you have iPhone 3GS, it will ask if it is old or new bootrom. Select appropriate option. Click Next.

Step 2.3
Select Expert Mode.

Step 2.4
Now click General and click Next button.

Step 2.5
Click the Activate iPhone (hactivate) option. Leave everything as it is and click Next, Next and Next.

Now click Build IPSW and click Next.

Now sn0wbreeze will start creating a custom IPSW. Wait for the process to finish.

Step 3
Entering Pwned DFU mode.

Once sn0wbreeze finishes the process, it will ask you if you want to enter Pwned DFU mode. Click yes. Now sn0wbreeze will guide you to enter Pwned DFU mode, so you can restore using the custom IPSW. Click Start and follow the steps shown. After successfully entering Pwned DFU mode, you can close sn0wbreeze.
Step 4
Restoring using custom IPSW.

Open iTunes. Hold Shift button and click Restore. Release Shift key. Browse to Desktop and select the IPSW you just created using sn0wbreeze.

Now iTunes will start restoring your device. After restore is complete, your iPhone is already Jailbroken and Activated.

After the restore process is finished, you can proceed to the next step to unlock your iPhone. So first finish the steps displayed on your iPhone and get to the home screen.

Step 5
Unlocking your iPhone.

There are three method of unlocking your iPhone. First is software unlock - ultrasn0w and second is hardware unlock using Gevey SIM or R-SIM. The third one is with saved SAM unlock tickets.

Step 5 A
Unlocking using ultrasn0w.

Note : ultrasn0w can unlock particular iPhone models and basebands. So if your iPhone meets the following requirements, you can use ultrasn0w to unlock it.

ultrasn0w requirements - iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, or iPhone 4 with baseband - 01.59.00 (in iPhone 4) 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01 or 05.13.04 (in iPhone 3G and 3GS). If you used iPad basbeand 06.15.00 on your iPhone 3GS, you can unlock too.

Configure Wi fi on your iPhone if not already done.
Now open Cydia and search for ultrasn0w and install it.
Reboot your iphone and you are done.

Step 5 B
Unlocking using Gevey or R-SIM.

Follow steps as described by the SIM interposer manufacturer. It is also possible that it may not support iOS 5.1.1 yet.

Step 5 C
Unlocking using saved SAM Unlock tickets.

If you unlocked using the SAM unlock method, and have backed up the Lockdown folder, you can now use it to unlock your iPhone.

Open Cydia and install SAM.

Now open SAM and click Revert Lockdown to stock.

Close SAM and connect your iPhone to your computer.

Use an iPhone browser like DiskAid and browse to the /var/root/Library and delete the Lockdown folder there.

Now copy the Lockdown folder you backed up to /var/root/Library. If you used redsn0w to backup Lockdown, you will have the folder in .zip format so unzip it and then copy the Lockdown folder to /var/root/Library/ on your iPhone.

Reboot your iPhone. Open SAM and disable it.

Reboot your iPhone again and you should see signal bar soon.

That's all.

If you need help, post in comments.

iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak Ready : Expect Release In A Matter Of Days

Update : iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak is out now. Read more and learn how to jailbreak your iDevice on iOS 5.1.1 here.

Hello everyone. Good news for those all waiting for an untethered jailbreak for their iDevice on iOS 5.1 or 5.1.1. iPhone security researcher pod2g has made it possible again. pod2g found exploit(s) needed to make iOS 5.1 jailbreak untethered a few weeks ago and he was testing it out on all iDevices. He confirmed that his iOS 5.1 untethered is working fine but then Apple released iOS 5.1.1 with a few bug fixes.

pod2g then started testing his exploit on iOS 5.1.1 and he has got his untethered jailbreak working on iOS 5.1.1 too. He recently Tweeted that his untethered may not work on iPhone 3GS and iPod 3G as the kernel vulnerability didn't work on them.

But a few days later he suggested that he has found a way to make the untethered work on iPhone 3GS and iPod 3G.

After testing his untethered on all devices, he has confirmed his 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak working on all devices except AppleTV 3.

pod2g has also confirmed that @planetbeing has worked hard and has fixed iBooks issue with the upcoming untethered jailbreak just in a few hours.

After testing and confirming his iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak working on all iDevices (except AppleTV 3), pod2g posted a poll on his blog in which he asked whether he should release the jailbreak or wait for iOS 6 release. Most of the voters voted in favor of release the jailbreak instead of waiting for iOS 6 release.

Now it seems that the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak is ready to release now and it pod2g will release it soon, possibly at the Hack In The Box Conference 2012 at Amsterdam which is taking place between May 21st to 25th.

pod2g has posted a list of device tested with the 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak on which it it confirmed working, not working and devices remained to test (but should work).

Now all those waiting for iOS 5.1 or 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak won't need to wait more. The 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak is on its way, just in a matter of days.

Apple N Berry Recalls Gevey Ultra 5.1 SIMs for iPhone 4

Just a few days ago, Apple N Berry, reputed and well known Chinese maker of Gevey SIM released the latest version of Gevey SIM called "Gevey SIM Ultra 5.1". Gevey SIM Ultra unlocked iPhone 4 GSM on latest basebands 4.11.08 and 4.12.01 as well as older basebands. There were no updates on the latest Gevey SIM that would unlock iPhone 4 on latest baseband until the unlock via SAM method was discovered by a Chinese hacker called Locktar_Sun. As soon as the SAM unlock method was released, Apple N Berry came into action released its Gevey SIM update.

Yesterday it was suggested by MuscleNerd, famous iphone hacker from iPhone Dev Team that Apple is fixing the SAM unlock method and soon, no iPhone could be unlocked using the SAM method. Today, Apple N Berry has posted on their blog that they are recalling the latest Gevey SIM Ultra, as they were based on Locktar_sun's SAM unlock method. A blog entry posted on Apple N Berry blog titled "GEVEY Ultra 5.1 for GSM iPhone 4 Recalled" reads as below.
Unfortunately, the GEVEY™ Ultra 5.1 for GSM iPhone 4 will no longer unlock the iPhone 4. The unlocking mechanism used in this model was based on Loktar Sun's discovery of an Apple server logic error that took advantage of an ICCID bug to unlock the iPhone modem firmware. On April 27, Apple fixed this bug.

Apple N Berry, LLC is accepting returns for all GEVEY™ Ultra 5.1 for GSM iPhone 4 purchased on our website. Customers who haven't received their shipment yet will automatically receive a full refund via their payment method chosen during checkout. Paypaly usually returns funds to user accounts within 10 days after we issue refunds.

This comes as a shock, as Apple N Berry is a reputed name in iphone hardware unlocks. They were the first to release a hardware unlock for iPhone 4 while the other hackers failed to make a working software unlock and people were desperately waiting for an unlock for their iphone 4. Soon after their release and confirmed working, Gevey SIM were a hit and iphone 4 users from all over the world used them for a reliable unlock.

The SAM unlock method discovered by Locktar_sun was a free unlock. Apple N Berry smartly "stole" the publicly and freely available method and released it under their name as Gevey SIM Ultra 5.1 for $49.99! This was indeed a smart move by Apple N Berry to release an already available free unlock method to release as their own and to earn some big moolah. But as Apple fixed the SAM unlock method, Gevey SIM Ultra 5.1 also became useless. This forced the company to recall their Gevey SIM Ultra 5.1 so they could possibly retain their well maintained reputation.

But even after recalling the now-useless Gevey SIM Ultra 5.1, Apple N Berry doesn't seem to be gaining respect as people are furious after knowing the Gevey SIM Ultra were based on a already freely available unlock method. Apple N Berry also knows that just apologizing and recalling their Gevey SIM will not be enough as they have lost their reputation, and it is of course hard to gain it.

The blog entry ends with the following:
We realize that a simple apology will not suffice for many loyal customers. We are working on future product updates and will surely make good on our commitment to customer satisfaction.

After the blog entry was posted, Apple N Berry's Gevey SIM Ultra 5.1 page displayed its availability as "Sold Out". After the news of recalling the Gevey SIM Ultra 5.1, price of the other method of unlocking iPhone 4 GSM on latest basebands, known as R-SIM IV were increased from $19.99 to 24.99. and its availability was also shown as "Our of stock".

I have already ordered Gevey SIM Ultra 5.1 from Apple N Berry. What now?
Apple N Berry has said that they will refund all the money to you and you should receive it soon.

I am stuck on baseband 4.11.08/4.12.01 on my iPhone 4? Can I unlock now?
You are just a day late in thinking of it. Just before yesterday, the SAM unlock method used to work for all iPhone models on all basebands. Anyway, there is still hope on R-SIM IV which can unlock your iPhone 4 GSM on baseband 4.11.08/4.12.01 as well as older basebands on iOS 5.1 or lower. R-SIM IV is the only method available right now for your iPhone 4 on baseband 4.11.08 or 4.12.01.

R-SIM IV Out Now - Unlock Your iPhone 4 GSM on baseband 4.11.08 and 4.12.01

It seems like a race is going on between iPhone unlock developers. Just two days ago, a new method of unlocking iPhone (unlock using SAM) on any iOS version having any baseband was discovered. Then yesterday, Apple N Berry released its Gevey SIM Ultra to unlock iPhone 4 on latest firmwares including 4.11.08 and 4.12.01. Now the latest R-SIM IV is released today which also can unlock iPhone 4 on baseband 4.11.08 and 4.12.01 at much lower price than the Gevey SIM Ultra.

More details about R-SIM IV
  • What device does R-SIM IV support?
  • R-SIM IV supports iPhone 4 GSM.

How To Unlock Any iPhone Using Subscriber Artificial Module : SAM

Hello everyone. In this tutorial today, I will describe the method of unlocking any iphone using Subscriber Artificial Module (SAM). To unlock using SAM, you will not need any hardware like SIM interposer (for example - Gevey SIM). This method is tested working on brand new iphone 4S too. So what are you waiting for. Read below to learn How to unlock your iphone using SAM.

The SAM Unlock Method is Tested working on :

iphone 4S - T-Mobile (Courtesy of MuscleNerd)
iPhone 3GS - Vodafone UK (My personal)

Update : Apple has possibly fixed this unlock method. This may will prevent any new unlocks via SAM. If you unlocked in past using SAM and backed up your Lockdown folder, you can still unlock in future. But no new unlocks using SAM can be done now.

If you follow this tutorial and got a working unlock, please let me know your iPhone Model, iOS version and baseband version so I can add it up here in tested Working List.

Requirements :
Any jailbroken and activated (or hactivated) iPhone which is not blacklisted by Apple (which can be activated).
Name of the carrier your iphone is locked to.
Internet Connection.

Please Note : This method unlocks your iPhone for SIM that you insert while the process. If you want to use any other SIM in future, you will need to follow the process again.

Please note that this is very newly discovered method. If you see any error or malfunction during or after following this method, please report them so the bugs can be fixed.

How to unlock your iphone using SAM?

Step 1
Installing SAM from Cydia.

Open Cydia - Go to Manage - Repository.
Tap Edit and Add.
Type the following - http://repo.bingner.com/
Tap Add. It will now add repo to Cydia.
Once repo is added, go to the bingner repo and select SAM and install it

Step 2
Configuring SAM.

Insert your SIM you want to unlock your iPhone for.
Go to Settings - SAM.
Go to Utilities and tap De-Activate iphone. The confirmation will appear.

Go back and go to more information.
It should display "Unactivated".
Note : If it does not say unactivated, go to utilities again and tap "Revert Lockdown to Stock". Now go and check more information again. It should display "Unactivated".

Now go back and scroll down and go to Method.
Select "By Country and Carrier" and go back.
Now select the country where your iphone in locked (for example, you got your iphone from United Kingdom but you are in India currently, select United Kingdom.

Now go back and select Carrier your iphone is locked to. For example At&T in USA, Vodafone in United Kingdom. If you see more than one carrier of same company and are unsure which to select, just select any of it.

Now go back and select SIM ID and select the available ID. Go back.

Now go to more information and select and copy/write down the IMSI number under SAM Details (do not get confused with SIM Details)

Now tap "Spoof Real SIM to SAM". It should say Spoofed.

Now go back to main screen and go to Method. Select Manual (if not already selected automatically) and paste/enter the IMSI number copied earlier.

Now connect your iphone to your computer and run iTunes. It will start its process of activation. Once iTunes finishes its process, close itunes and unplug your iphone from computer.

If itunes says unsupported SIM, you probably selected wrong carrier or wrong ID from the list. Follow step 2 again.

Now go back to SAM and disable it.

After disabling, close SAM and connect your iphone to iTunes again. It should say iphone can not be activated. It is normal.

Close iTunes now and wait for a minute. Now open iTunes again. Your iphone should be unlocked now and you should see signal bar soon.

After unlocking using this method, make backup of the following folder on your iphone to your computer - /var/root/Library/Lockdown/
This backup will be useful to unlock your iphone in future.

To backup, either use iExplorer, or DiskAid or any other utility which allows you to browse iPhone file system, browse to /var/root/Library/ and Copy Lockdown folder to your computer.

Update : You can also use latest redsn0w to backup your activation keys. To download click here.
Run redsn0w, go to Extras->Even More->Backup to backup your Lockdown folder.

Please note that this is very newly discovered method. If you see any error or malfunction after following this method, please report them so the bugs can be fixed.

If you followed this tutorial and got a working unlock, please let me know your , iPhone Model, iOS version and baseband version so I can add it up here in tested Working List.

Update : Apple has fixed this unlock method. This will prevent any new unlocks via SAM. If you unlocked in past using SAM and backed up your Lockdown folder, you can still unlock in future. But no new unlocks using SAM can be done now.

How To Create Signed Custom IPSW Using shsh Blobs and Restore Without Error 11

Create signed custom IPSW

Hello everyone. In this tutorial today, I will describe the method to create a "signed" IPSW using redsn0w and iFaith. A signed IPSW is used to restore to an iOS version Apple has stopped signing. As you may know, once Apple releases a new iOS update, it stops signing previous version. It means you can no longer restore to the version Apple has stopped signing and you must restore to the latest iOS version which will make you lose your jailbreak and unlock. Those who wish to restore to that version must have saved shsh so that they can restore.

Starting from iOS 5.0, Apple has implemented a new method to stop users from restoring to a version no longer being signed. So if Apple has released iOS 5.1 and stopped signing iOS 5.0.1, you can no longer restore to iOS 5.0.1, even using TinyUmbrella and you must restore to iOS 5.1. When you try to restore to iOS 5.0 or 5.0.1, you get "Unknown error has occurred. Error code (11)" message on iTunes and cannot restore.

For those who rely on jailbreaks, this is inconvenient. Because restoring to a version for which untethered jailbreak is released is not a good idea. To overcome this restriction, you can use a "signed" IPSW. Signed IPSW has shsh blobs stitched to it and you no longer need TinyUmbrella to bypass Apple proxy. When you feed this "Signed" IPSW to iTunes, it will accept it and you can restore without any error like error 11.

What this process will do?
After successfully completing this process, you will create a Signed Custom IPSW which will help you restore to a version Apple is no longer signing. This IPSW will preserve your baseband too.

Requirements:
  • You must have saved shsh for the iOS version you want to restore to. Example - iOS 5.0 or 5.0.1 (which are not being signed currently as iOS 5.1 is out). They are supposed to be locally stored on your computer.
  • You must have proper IPSW for the desired iOS for your iPhone model.
  • Download iFaith from here or redn0w from here
  • Make sure TinyUmbrella TSS Server is not running.
  • Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and open the hosts file with notepad. If any of these lines are there, remove them.
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com
Note: In this tutorial, I will mention only iOS 5.0.1 hereafter. This tutorial will work with 5.0 and later versions too.

Note: This method does not support A5 or later devices.

Step 1 : Creating Signed IPSW.
    • There are two methods of creating a Signed IPSW. Using iFaith and using redsn0w. Both tools are great. I will describe both methods below.
Note : If you have already created a custom IPSW but can't restore to iOS 5.0.1, follow method B and provide your custom IPSW. It will not make any changes to your IPSW except stitching shsh blobs to it. It will retain any options you selected (hactivation for example).
      A) How to create a Signed IPSW using iFaith by iH8sn0w
      • Run iFaith.
      • The screen looks like this:
      iFaith main screen

      • Click Build *Signed* IPSW w/Blobs button.
      • Now browse to the saved shsh and select the shsh blob for iOS 5.0.1. If you saved shsh using TinyUmbrella, they are saved in C:\Users\User Name\.shsh directory. Blobs saved by iFaith have .ifaith extension while TinyUmbrella saves shsh in .shsh extension. You can use any of these.

      • After you select the shsh blob, iFaith will verify it and show you the iOS version and build and ask you to browse to the IPSW of that iOS IPSW file.

      • Now browse for the stock IPSW. Note that iFaith does not support custom IPSW (redsn0w does).
      • After selecting the IPSW, it will show credits and is ready to build the signed IPSW for you.
      • Click Build IPSW button and it will start building signed IPSW.

      • Once iFaith finishes building signed IPSW, it can guide you to enter Pwned DFU mode so you can restore using this signed IPSW. If you want to restore right now, click Proceed button, and follow the instructions to enter Pwned DFU mode. After you enter Pwned DFU mode, you can restore using the signed IPSW, so follow Step 2.2. If you prefer using redsn0w to enter Pwned DFU, or want to restore at a later time, follow Step 2.1 and later.
      B) How to create a Signed IPSW using redsn0w
      • Run redsn0w. The home screen looks like this :
Old version screen shot used to save bandwidth

      • Click Extras button. Click SHSH Blobs button. Click Stitch button.

      • Now click IPSW button and browse to the IPSW you want to create "Signed" IPSW from. Note that redsn0w accepts custom IPSWs (iFaith doesn't). So you can sign a custom IPSW you created using sn0wbreeze to preserve baseband, jailbreak and/or hactivation.
      • Tip : If you want to learn how to create a custom IPSW for iOS 5.0.1 using sn0wbreeze, click here Follow Step 2 there to create a custom IPSW. If you need to hactivate, follow Step 2.b.
      • After providing IPSW, click Local button and browse to the shsh folder. By default TinyUmbrella saves shsh in C:\Users\User Name\.shsh directory. If you copied shsh somewhere else, browse to that directory and select shsh file.

      • After you provide the shsh blob, redsn0w will start building signed IPSW for you.

      • After building signed IPSW, redsn0w will show you the location where the signed IPSW is created. It will be in the same directory from where you provided the IPSW earlier.
Step 2 : Restoring To iOS 5.0.1 Using Signed IPSW.
      • Once you create a signed IPSW, you can restore to iOS 5.0.1.
Step 2.1 : Entering Pwned DFU mode.
      • In order to use the signed IPSW (or any custom IPSW for tha matter), you need to enter Pwned DFU mode. We will use redsn0w here.
      • Run redsn0w and click Extras. Then click Pwned DFU button.
      • Now connect your iphone to your computer and Power it off.
      • Click Next button and follow steps shown in redsn0w to enter Pwned DFU mode.
      • Once in Pwned DFU mode, you are ready to restore using signed IPSW.
      Step 2.2 : Doing a restore.
      • Open iTunes. It will say it has detected iPhone in Recovery mode. Click OK.
      • Now press and hold the Shift key on your keyboard and click restore in iTunes. Release Shift and browse to the signed IPSW. If you used iFaith, it will be on your desktop and if you used redsn0w, it will be in the same folder from where you provided the IPSW to redsn0w.
After providing IPSW, iTunes should restore to iOS 5.0.1 without any errors.
If you used iFaith method or provided stock IPSW in redsn0w, you will need to jailbreak your iPhone. Click here and follow Step 4 there. After jailbreaking, you can follow Unlocking your device steps to unlock your iPhone.
If you provided a custom IPSW in redsn0w, created using sn0wbreeze to jailbreak, you just need to follow Unlocking your device steps.

Okay so this is it. It was the tutorial on How to create a signed custom IPSW with shsh blobs stitched to it. If you liked this tutorial, if it helped you in any way, kindly share it anywhere you can.

And these apps makes you understand why you should jailbreak your iPhone or iPod Touch. These are the things you are losing if you don't jailbreak. Action Menu and Action Menu Plus Pack :  Developed by very known Jailbreak app developer, Ryan Petrich, Action Menu allows you to integrate a variety of actions in your device. These actions are integrated in every apps on your device like Contacts, Mail, Message etc. Action Menu actions includes Dial- which allows your to select and dial a number, History - which maintains clipboard history, Lookup - which looks up the text to known online services such as Google, Wikipedia and Google Translate, Tweet - which allows yo to tweet the selection etc. Action Menu itself is a free app but the Plus pack, which includes more actions,  is needed to be purchased.

Activator : Activator is an app which makes easier to perform different tasks, no matter whether you are on Lock Screen, Home Screen or inside an application. These tasks are easily customizable. You can set what task to perform when a pre-defined action is performed. For example, you can set to bring iPod controls on screen when you double tap the status bar on lock screen or open the camera when you double press the Home button while you are using an application.

Activator is a mush have app for your iDevice and is available for free in Cydia.

AndroidLock XT : Ever used an Android phone? Some people put a lock on screen, in which you have to draw a defined pattern in order to unlock the screen. This a good feature and if you want to have it on your iPhone or iPod Tocuh, you can install AndroidLock XT from Cydia. Then you can set a pattern and every time someone tries to unlock the screen, they will have to draw the pattern. And you can even have different themes like squares instead of the rounds. You can even have a pac man theme! Great isn't it?

Barrel : When you swipe the Home screen, the icons just go left and right - in the direction you swipe the screen. But what if you could ad a little flavor in the way icons move on screen? Well, Barrel is there for you. After installing Barrel from Cydia, you can select a mode in which icons will move on screen. There are many modes available to choose from. These modes includes - inside or outside cube, Page Slide Up Page Slide Down, Curl and Roll Away (my favorite), Page Fade etc etc. Get Barrel today and add some fun to the Home screen.

BiteSMS : The default SMS app in iOS is dull and boring. There are no additional features - just messaging. With BiteSMS, you can have additional features in messages. You can schedule one or more message, so you don't have to stay wake up in order to with your friend happy birthday at 12:00 AM,you can add smileys, you can set delay sending, you can have contact pics in messages, you can Quick Compose a message without opening the message app, no matter if you are on lock screen, home screen or in application etc. There are lot more features available in BiteSMS and you will forget your default message app after installing BiteSMS.

Call Delete : Ever wished you could delete one or more calls from the call list? By default, the call log only allows you to clear the whole list, but what if you want to just remove a call or two and keep all other calls untouched. Well, there's an app for that. Call Delete is what it is called. By installing Call Delete, you can swipe a call in the call log, and delete it from the list. You can delete multiple calls from the call log too. So if you were looking for an app which would allow you to do the same, get Call Delete from Cydia.

CallLock : CallLock is a tweak that allows you to lock your iPhone while in call. But you would ask why you need this app, if it automatically locks itself when yuu move your iPhone near your ear. Well, there are people whose proximity censors don't work (mine doesn't), so their iPhone will not lock itself during calls. So this is when CallLock comes to your help. You can set CallLock duration after which your iPhone will automatically lock itself during call. No more accidental touches during calls, thatnks to CallLock.

Celeste Bluetooth File Sharing : Every iPhone or iPod touch owner thinks once in a while that it would be good if Apple allowed Blutooth file sharing. But Apple believes in its stupid policy and does not allow bluetooth file sharing. It is a big drawback, and I have seen people rejecting iPhones and buying other phone, after knowing iPhone can not send and receive files using bluetooth.

But jailbreaking your iphone will solve this problem. Just install Celeste Bluetooth File Sharing on your iphone or iPod Touch and enjoy file sharing via bluetooth. Yes, Celeste allows file sharing via bluetooth. You can send and receive songs, pictures and other files using Celeste. Celeste integrates itself so well in iOS that you would think bluetooth was there by default. If you are one of those who want to taste the flavor of bluetooth file sharing on their iPhones and iPod Touches, install Celeste and have fun.

      Watch Celeste in Action :

Color Keyboard : Add some colors to the default - white keyboard of your iphone and iPod Touch. Install Color Keyboard, and you can give colors to your keyboard. You can even download other keyboard colors that suits your mood. Give Color Keyboard a try, you will surely love it.

Copic/Cyntact : These are two different tweaks made by two different developers. But they do almost same thing. With Cyntact you can see contact pics in Cotacts app. And with Copic, you can see pictures everywhere contacts are seen - like in Contact app, messages etc. So if you like to have contact pics to be shown where they are supposed to be shown, install Copic or Cyntact.

DreamBoard : The very advanced theme platform available in Cydia. DreamBoard allows you to change the whole screen layout of your iPhone and iPod Touch. There are number of themes available for DreamBoard that will change the look of your screen layout from top to bottom. All themes are customizable as per user's needs. Just try DreamBoard, you will surely love it. And it is free too!

FolderEnhancer : When Apple introduced folders in iOS, it was believed that you will no longer have to swipe so much in order to go to an app. You will just put app icons in folders. But, Apple is Apple for a reason. They put restrictions in folders too. You could ass just a number of icons in a folder, 16 maybe. Well I don't remember because I use FolderEnhancer. FolderEnhancer allows you to have unlimited icons in a folder. It make folders the way they should be. I mean who woudl like to have folders like Games !, Games 2, Games 3? I would like all games in one folder - Games. That's all. And this is what FolderEnhancer allows you to do. Put as many icons in a folder as you want. You can even create folders in folders. For example I could create a folder names Action inside the Games folder and put all Action games inside that folder. Cool, isn't it? So go grab FolderEnhancer today.

      Watch FolderEnhancer in Action:

Gridlock : Are you tired of the default home screen layout of your iPhone and iPod touch? Wish you could put icons and folders anywhere you wanted? Wish you did not have to stick to the simple icon after icon layout? Well, with Gridlock, you could just do that. Now put all your icons and folders anywhere you like. You can put one icon and leave space after it before the second icon comes. You could create the layout of initial of your name like I do - P. Just break the lock of restrictions and breath some fresh air of freedom. Install Gridlock and have custom homescreen layout.

iBlacklist : Ever wanted to ignore calls from someone damn boring? Wish you could ignore messages from someone who sends like hundreds useless, meaningless messages everyday? Ever wanted to ignore thsose spam messages which says you have won a million buck as your mobile number has been selected n a lottery? You could do that if you had iBlacklist. With iBlacklist, you can create lists from where you can select whose calls and messages to ignore. Once you add a number or contact name to that list, you will never hear from that person anymore. You can set to send someone's call directly to Voice Mail, or you could set to receive and hang up that call. There are a number of options available in iBlacklist for both calls and messages. Install iBlacklist and enjoy your privacy,

LockInfo : LockInfo is one hell of a tweak. If allows you to have any information displayed directly on the Lock screen. It can display weather information, calendar events, new emails, messages or missed calls' list, recent notifications from any app - all this right on your lock screen. You can read an email directly from lock screen without opening the mail app, call a number whose call you missed, see the whole calendar etc etc, thanks to LockInfo. You need to install the add-ons in order to have that on your lock screen, but the add ons are free, while the LockInfo app itself is a paid app.

QuickDo : Same as the Activator app, QuickDo also allows you to perform different tasks when performed any pre-defined action. It also allows you to have app icons on lock screen from where you open an application right from the lock screen, without unlocking your iPhone or iPod touch. QuickDo displays a bar which acts as a trigger for actions. You can perform actions via the QuickDo bar or the status bar (if set).

Safari Download Manager : Safari Download Manager allows you to manage downloads just as you would do it on your computer's browser. It also adds supports for know file-types. You can even pause and resume downloads (if supported by the host). All downloads go into a pre-defined folder from where you can access them.

SBSettings : Did you ever realize it is very annoying to perform a very easy task like turning on 3G or Wi Fi etc. You have to unlock your iPhone, go to settings, find the setting, and then perform the task. It is really annoying and time consuming. What if you could perform these tasks right from lock screen or from an app, without leaving it? With SBSettings, you can just do that. You can create a trigger using Activator or QuickDo, by which, the SBSettings opens up no matter if you are on lockscreen, home screen or using an application. When the SBSettings panel opens up, you can perform tasks like turning On/Off 3G, Wi Fi, Airplane Mode, Bluetooth, Location etc. You can download additional add-ons to as per your need.SBSettings make your life easy. Install if, it a must have and, it is free.

VoiceActivator : Do you wish you could give voice commands you your iPhone? Well you can do that using the default voice control added to your iPhone, but you can get your default voice control app to open up an application, can you? With VoiceActivator, you can give voice commands your iPhone. VoiceActivator uses iPhone's inbuilt voice control and enhances it to take voice commands. You can tell your iphone to open up camera or message or any other app for that matter. All you need to do is to add a voice command, and set the action to perform. For example, you can set a voice command like "Open SMS Please" and set it to open the message application for you. For this, VoiceActivator uses Activator to perform defined actions.

More interestingly, you can even get your iPhone to talk with you. Yes, talk with you. You can add a voice command, and set the actions as to speak text. Now set what to speak. And when you will give this voice command, your iphone with speak the defines text. Interesting isn't it?

      Watch VoiceActivator in Action :

WinterBoard : And the last app in the list is going to be WinterBoard. From the creator of Cydia, know as the father of jailbreaks - Jay Freeman (saurik), WinterBoard is one of the best jailbreak apps available on Cydia. With WinterBoard, you can have themes on your iphone and iPod Touch. Get rid of "just wallpaper" for your lock screen amd home screen because WinterBoard can help you get hundreds of amazing themes for your iPhone and iPod Touch. Just download WinterBoard, ant theme you like, and set it in WinterBoard app, and voila, everything on screen has changes. The icons, the colors, the wallpapers, the sounds, everything! WinterBoard is the best customization platform available in Cydia. It is damn easy to use and, it is free.

So this is it. It was my list of the very best jailbreak apps and tweaks, available on Cydia. If you think I have missed an app, and it should be in this list, tell me in the comment. And which apps are your favorite? Le me and everyone else know.
