How To Sync iPhone Contacts And Calendars With Google And Vice Versa

Your iPhone has obviously so many contacts right? You have stored so many details about different contacts. These contact details may include one or more phone numbers, birth dates, address, messenger ID, email IDs, notes, pictures and so. It takes long time to add so much info right? Every time you restore your iphone you have to sync your contacts with your PC, or if your iphone is brand new, you will have to add each contact manually. But what if you can have all your contact details right from your google account? Just within a few seconds? Or in reverse, you have already added contact details and calendar events on your iPhone and now you want them in your Google Account, then you can do that too. Good enough yeah? You can have all your contact information including calendar events from your iPhone, stored in your Google Account or All Contacts and calendar events from your Google account, stored on your iPhone. All you have to do is to configure your iPhone to sync with Google and you are done.

Let me show you how.

Things you need.
Well you don't need any stuff for this. Just your iphone with cellular data or wi-fi turned on and Google account. Thats it.

How to sync iphone contacts and calenders with Google account and vice versa.

First of all, you need to configure your iPhone. To do that, first make sure cellular data or Wi-Fi is turned on on your iPhone and follow these steps.

Step 1

  • Go to Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars on your iPhone.
  • Tap Add Account...
  • From Add Account... screen, select Microsoft Exchange.

Step 2
  • On the next screen shown, you have to enter your Google Account data.
  • In Email field, enter your full Gmail email ID. for example - myemail@gmail.com
  • Leave the Domain field blank.
  • In Username field, add your full Gmail email again. myemail@gmail in example.
  • In Password field, enter your Gmail account password.
  • In Description field, enter name you want to give to this account. We will give name - Google Exchange.
  • Tap Next button.
  • Now you will see Server field. Type m.google.com in this field.
  • Now tap Save.
  • It will connect to Google server and configure your account now.
Step 3
  • Once connected, it will show the next screen which will ask you what information you want to sync between your iPhone and Google account. It will have three options - Mail, Contacts and Calendars.
  • Keep Contacts and Calendars ON and if you want to sync Email from your Gmail account, then keep it on also.
  • Now tap Save.

Now if your iPhone already has contacts you synced from your computer or you have added them manually, then it will ask if you want to delete them or keep them. If your Google account have same contacts as you have on your iPhone, then you can choose to delete them. But if you don't have these contacts in your google account, or your iPhone and Google account have different contacts and you want to keep them both, then don't delete contacts from your iPhone. It will also ask the same about calendars. The same rule applies here. Don't delete calender events if you don't have these events in your google account.

If your iPhone has no contacts and calendars synced from your computer, it will not ask you anything.

Now your Google Account has been configured to be synced with your iphone and vice versa.

You can see the account you just setup in Mail, Contacts and Calendars.

Now close Settings and go to Contacts. Select Groups from upper left side and select from where you want to show contacts. If your iPhone already had contacts and you synced other contacts from Google account too, then you should select All Contacts so you can see all contacts from your iphone and your Google Account.
If you want to see contacts from your Google account only then select Contacts under Google Exchange.

Now close Contacts and go to Calendar.
If you had calendar events in your google account then you can see them in here. To see all events, tap List.
Tap Calendars from upper left corner and select which calendar(s) you want to show in your iPhone. If you want both - your iphone calendar and contact birthdays plus Google Exchange calendars then select them all. Now you will see all events from Google Account, events you added manually on your iPhone and contact birthdays.

Now every time you add a new contact on your iphone, it will be added to our Google Contacts too. if you edit a contact, the changes will be made in your Google contacts too. In reverse, if you add or edit contacts in your Google Contacts, then they will be synced with your iphone and you will see them in your iphone.

Same for Calendar events. If you add an event in your iPhone or Google calendar, it will be seen in both your Google Calendar and iphone Calendar.

So now you don't need to be worried to have all  your contacts and calender events and birthdays to be entered manually in Google or iphone. So much time saved yeah? Great!

To add, edit or delete a contact from Google Account, go to www.gmail.com and click contacts from left pane.

You will see all contacts there. To edit a contact, simply click on a contact name and edit the information you want and it will be saved. After save, it will be synced with your iPhone too.

To add a new contact, click New Contact from left pane, and add all information like name, phone number, address, mail and so and click save. The new contact will be synced with your iPhone and you can see it in iPhone contacts.

To add, edit or delete calendar events, click Calendar from upper left corner while you are in gmail or directly go to www.google.com/calendar and it will open Google calendar.

To create an event, click Create Event from left pane and add all information you want to add.

Now one really nice thing about Google calendar is that it will remind you of that event via email or pop-up or SMS (need to configure mobile for SMS). You can set before how many minutes you want to be reminded about the event and google will send you an email or SMS as you have configured.

Once you add or edit an event, it will be synced with your iphone and so you can see it in your iphone calendar too.

So now that you have configured sync between your iphone and Google, you don't need to worry about your contact details and calendar events. All stuff will be maintained by iPhone and Google now. Plus, you will be notified by Google about your events. Now never forget your girlfriend's birthday or first time you kissed or your marriage anniversary. Google will remind you man!

Easy, isn't it?

Note : In order to sync data, you must have cellular data or Wi-Fi turned on. If not, then changes will not reflect in Google or iPhone and they will be synced after you turn on cellular data or Wi-Fi.
