Swiss Postal System Closes WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange Bank Account

All is not well with whistle-blowing site WikiLeaks. The Swiss Post Office's banking arm said on Monday that it had closed an account set up by WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange after he gave false information. "PostFinance has ended its business relationship with WikiLeaks founder Julian Paul Assange," the bank said in a statement. "The Australian citizen provided false information regarding his place of residence during the account opening process." Assange had given an undisclosed address in the Swiss city of Geneva as his residence, it added.

The website's press release says the freeze includes a defense fund and personal assets worth 31,000 euros. "The technicality used to seize the defense fund was that Mr. Assange, as a homeless refugee attempting to gain residency in Switzerland, had used his lawyers address in Geneva for the bank's correspondence." the release suggests.

WikiLeaks and Julian are said to have lost 100Keur in assets this week.

It is also to be noted that PayPal also terminated the account used to donate WikiLeask.
