iOS 4.3 Untethered Jailbreak Almost Confirmed, To Be Released Soon ~ Blog O'Nerd

Just two days ago, Apple has released iOS 4.3, the latest operating system for iDevices. iOS 4.3 has been released for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G, iPad 2 and iPad 1. Apple has discontinued any further software updates for iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G from iOS 4.3 release. That means these two device are not going to get future operating system updates starting from iOS 4.3.

iOS 4.3 bring in many new features, mainly for iPad. The new features of iOS 4.3 includes Personal Hotspot, which will allow users to create Wi-Fi hotspot and they can share their internet connection with other devices. AirPlay functionality has been made available for third party apps. Mobile Safari performance has been said to be improved. iOS 4.3 gives users option to repeat the SMS alert more than twice. User can set to repeat the alert 1,2,3,5 or 10 times. iOS 4.3 gives new layout to keyboard. iOS 4.3 brings in other features too which are not mentioned here.

To download and install iOS 4.3 on your device, you simply need to connect your device to your computer, open iTunes and click the Update button in iTunes. Instead, you can download and install iOS 4.3 manually too. To download iOS 4.3, follow the official Apple links given below (at the end) and download the IPSW file, then open itunes and press SHIFT key on your keyboard and browse to the IPSW file you downloaded and select the file. Now your device will be updated to iOS 4.3.

After talking about iOS 4.3 release and feature news, let's talk about jailbreaking news. If you have jailbreak your iDevice and wish to update to iOS 4.3 while preserving your jailbreak, then you have given single word advice - "DON'T". You should not update your device to iOS 4.3 if you have jailbreak and unlocked your device as you will lose them both. Wait for official jailbreak release. You are warned.

And at last, one interesting news for jailbreakers. The untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3 has been confirmed! This time iPhone hacker and security researcher i0n1c has found an exploit in iOS 4.3. Infact he had the exploit since long, and he awaited the iOS 4.3 final to be released so he could release the untethered jailbreak. He posted a message on Twitter stating it. He posted a video on you tube showing his untethered jailbreak. See the video below. He has also mentioned that the jailbreak needs a way to install it in the system first. We already have bootrom exploit to install it in all iDevices (the limera1n exploit) but as the iPad 2 is new, there are no public bootrom exploits to enter iPad 2 root and install the jailbreak. So this jailbreak will not work with iPad 2 at the moment. i0n1c has said that ~~he will release this tool~~ he is not going to release a jailbreak tool itself but he will only give out the untether. If possible, it could be a Cydia package. ~~He has also given ETA for his release. He has mentioned that the jailbreak will be released before the next weekend.~~ In a new video posted by i0n1c, which shows his untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.3.1, he has mentioned that he does not give any ETA for the jailbreak.

And while I'm writing this, I have come to know that iPhone hacker comex has also been working on a bug he found in iOS 4.3 (actually he found more that one bug) and has showed a jailbroken iPad 2 in a picture posted by chpwn. So I can assume that he also will release the jailbreak soon.

So while so much jailbreaking stuff with us right now, all you need to wait for official jailbreak for iOS 4.3 to be released by i0n1c and/or comex. One thing is confirmed that whoever releases the jailbreak, it will be an "untethered" jailbreak which will (most probably) work on all devices.
