These spam emails are titled "Tagged" and have different subjects.
These fake, spam emails have any of the following subject :
- Linda W sent you a message...
- Ina E sent you a message...
- Maura R sent you a message...
- Caroline N sent you a message...
- Glenys N sent you a message...
- Ailsa D sent you a message...
- Alison H sent you a message...
- Mairead O sent you a message...
- Morwen E sent you a message...
- Mandy S sent you a message...
At first, I used to ignore and delete these emails, as I never heard of Tagged, and was not interested in doing so. But these emails are sent everyday and they bombard your inbox with it. Upon opening these emails, you can see that they look very authentic. The layout of these emails is well prepared to look legit.
These spam mail contain a small picture of a girl. Below the girl's photograph, her name and age are displayed. The message starts with You have a new message! Then it displays incomplete message. "Mairead O says: Hi, do you remember me? Can you.. " followed by View Message button.
As I have highlighted in the above picture, all the links that these emails contains, points to the same URL. And obviously this URL is not related to Tagged.com. Different Tagged spam emails contain different URLs under these links and none of them are authentic.
Upon clicking any of the link, it takes you to some Viagra websites (as usual!). Now this is not it. If you clicked any link inside the email and come to see that is only a Viagra website, think again. Because the page where the link takes you can contain malicious scripts that can steal your data or drop a malware on your computer.
At the bottom, the email contains Tagged Inc.'s address, which seems true. In the last line, it says - "All Tagged emails will be sent from our official @tagged.com or @taggedmail.com domains to your registered email address. We will never contact you from any other email addresses." This line is added to make you fool. While @tagged.com is Tagged's authentic email, @taggedmail.com is not. @taggedmail.com is used by those spammers to send you these authentic looking spam emails. So if you check the address to see where it came from, you will get any email address ending with @taggedmail.com.
What should I do if I receive this kind of spam emails?
I you receive this kind of spam emails, delete them right away. Do not open them and never click on any link inside the email. It could pose a threat to your computer system, The web page you will visit after clicking the link may contain malicious scripts that can steal your personal information like passwords, or it can drop a malware on your computer. It is possible that your security software can not identify the threat.
How do I stop receiving theses spam emails?
You can add the domain @taggedmail.com to your ignore list and set every email you receive from this domain to be sent directly to trash. These settings can be set in your email provider's options.
