Time To Backup SHSH Blobs

OK, So Everyone Knows That The New "Jail Break" Called "Spirit" By @comex Is On The Horizon. It Will JB Devices Having Firmware 3.1.2 And Later And 3.2 (For iPad). It Will Also JB Newly Launched iPad 3G. "Spirit" Is Declared As "Legit" By iPhone Dev Team And MuscleNerd Also. This "JB" Will Be Released Any Time, So Its Time To Backup Your SHSH Blobs For Any Future Needs.

In This Post, I Will Describe The Steps To Backup Your SHSH Blobs. So Get Ready.

Before Starting, You Should Keep In Ming That, Backup Of SHSH Blobs Is Not Necessary To Use Any JB, But Is Useful When You "Accidentally" Update Your OS (Yes, Some People Are Stupid Enough To Meet These Kind Of Accidents) And Want To Restore (Downgrade) To Your Previous OS. Without SHSH Blobs, You Can't Restore.

OK Now Lets Start. You Need Two Softwares First - "Firmware Umbrella" And "USB View". Download Them And Read The Following Steps. ("How To" Guide Is Also Included In The Archive)

Now Follow These Simple Steps.
  • First, Power Off Your iDevice.
  • Then, Hold The "Home" Button, And While Holding It, Connect Your iDevice To Your Computer. Your iDevice Should Now Show The Apple Logo And Then, Should Show "Connect To iTunes" Logo. If So, Your iDevice Is Now In "Restore Mode". Now You Can Release The "Home Button".
  • Now, Run usbview.exe.
  • Go To Options And Check The "Config Descriptors" Option. (Enable It)
  • Now Press F5 To Refresh The Screen.
  • Scroll Down The Left Panel Until You See Something Like "[Port X] DeviceConnected : Apple Recovery(iBoot) USB Driver" And Click It. Now Look Out The Right Screen For "iSerialNumber" Under Which Your 16 Digit ECID Is Written.

  • Copy Your ECID And Now Run umbrella.exe (For 32 Bit Processors) Or umbrell64.exe (For 64 Bit Processors)
  • Paste Your ECID In ECID Box.
  • Select Your Device Version.
  • Select "Apple" As SHSH Repository And Click "Submit".
  • Wait For A Few Second. Keep An Eye On "Status" At The Bottom Right Corner.
  • Once The Process Is Successfully Done, It Will Show Message Like "SHSH Saved! File" XXXXXXXXXXXX-iphone-Firmware Version.shsh"

  • You Are Done. Your SHSH Blob Is Saved In The "Firmware Umbrella" Directory. Put It In Safe Place. Who Knows When You Might Need It?
  • Now Turn Off Your iDevice And Turn It On To Get Out Of The Recovery Mode.

Note: If You Get Error While Running Firmware Umbrella, Download And Install Latest JAVA Runtime Environment (JRE) From Here

As Per This Moment, @comex Is Holding The Release Of "Spirit" To Give People (Specially Who Got iPad 3G Yesterday) Time To Backup SHSH Blobs. He Will Release It At The Right Time.
